I RAN NINETEEN MILES YESTERDAY MORNING. 19! That’s a pretty huge deal to me!
I usually wake up early on Saturday to get my long runs in but I REALLY needed to sleep in, plus I had no plans. I managed to make it to 9:00am before the dogs begged me to wake up.
I headed out to the trail around 10:00am
The first half of the run I felt great. I was nervous because I was having some shin pain all week that I was terrified was going to prevent me from completing this distance. I am happy to report, it didn’t hurt at all during the run! HOORAY!!!
(Half Way Point)
I pee’d and speed walked for a minute or 2 and then I was back on my way.
The second half was harder then the first. I started to ache. I had to stop a few times and stretch. My knee started to hurt which I haven’t had any problems with my whole training. I was mentally struggling because I was alone and running for more then 3 hours becomes a bit mundane, I really could have used some distractions.
I took 2 Gu chomps at miles 4, 8, 12 and 16. I definitely feel a difference after having some. At one point I was STARVING and having 2 chomps helped a bit. I also sipped on waterdered down Gatorade the whole time. My lips got super dry and I was DYING for cold water by mile 15. My camel bak had gotten warm by that point.
The last 2 miles I had to do a little run walk alternating because I was struggling but then I FINISHED! I DID IT!!!
Moving hurt, trying to stretch hurt but I was so proud that these feet carried me 19 miles.
I had a solid few minutes where I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to run again… and then that runners high of 19 miles took over!!!
I put on the sleeve for my 110% compression socks and inserted the ice packs.
I could have used some ice for my whole body but I was also kind of freezing.
I ended up finishing the run in 3:22:49 with an average pace of 10:40
NEXT WEEKEND… I will concur TWENTY MILES! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
