Welcome to the day of the worst run of my life. I am not exaggerating and I suppose it was bound to happen with all these awesome runs I have been having lately. However, i don’t attribute this seriously HORRIBLE run to being burnt out. I am 100% positive its because I let my dogs health turn me into a ball of nerves the night before my run. Thank god she is ok now but last night I was a wreck. I could NOT drink water, I could NOT have a real dinner, I choked down a small bowl of cereal before bed. Therefore this morning, on top of being very scared and nervous I was very dehydrated, I mean VERY VERY badly, my pee was like orange it was so dark ( sorry TMI)
I “ran” with the Blerch today, there is no doubt about it.
I met my sister and my brother in law in New hope. We all run very different paces and all had different distances to run but we all wanted to at least see each other while they were in town.
I was originally going to run 13 and I was ready, or so I thought, not even a mile in I …was…DONE… so very done. OMG was it horrible. I ate a couple honey stingers thinking the energy would help and I also sipped on some watered down Gatorade but no. it did NOT get any better. Somehow I dragged myself to mile 5 and decided there was no way in hell I was making 13 so I changed it to 12. I planned on running 12 next weekend, so I decided to switch.
My body felt OK, but my mind was shot, I literally couldn’t make it a mile EVERY SINGLE mile, without walking, I would stop and walk to a tree and then force myself to keep moving.
I wanted to stop and sit down and give up. Pretty impractical since I was on an out and back trail. UGH.
What a crap run. It felt like I had run a mile and I would look at my watch it I had only gone about a half mile, it was the worst. I will mention it was incredibly hot. In the 80′s and this girl has happily adjusted to 50 degree runs so it was brutal.
I DID eventually finish and it turned out my sister had an awful run as well. My brother in law who runs marathons often and VERY QUICKLY, told me everyone has to have at least 1 bad long run during marathon buildup so now I just got all my bad runs in training over with in this one run hopefully.
Very dusty trail, My ankles are black.
I am glad its over… in fact now that Kiya is home and feeling better I almost wish I could go back out there and re do my run lol… you know ill just re run 12 and run 24 today hahah… jk but seriously, thats how much better I feel now. I have also been chugging water like a crazy person since I got home.
I finished the 12 in 2:11:49 with an average pace of 10:58 which I attribute to some kind of miracle sliding in under 11 minute miles…..
Here’s to leaving the Blerch at home next time….
What was the worst run of YOUR life like?
